Component 1: Movement Analysis Flashcards
What are the 4 parts to a lever?
Lever arm, fulcrum, load & effort.
What is the lever arm?
A rigid bar such as a bone.
What is the fulcrum?
The point around which the the lever rotates. Often the joint.
What is the load?
The weight/resistance to be moved. Often a weight or a body weight.
What is the effort?
The force applied to lift the load. Often the muscle contracting.
How many types of levers are there in the body?
3
What are the different lever types?
1st class, 2nd class, 3rd class.
What component is in the middle of a first class lever?
Fulcrum
What component is in the middle of a 2nd class lever?
Load
What component is in the middle in the 3rd class lever?
Effort
What is the load arm?
The distance from the fulcrum to the load.
What is the effort arm?
The distance from the fulcrum to the effort.
What is meant by mechanical advantage?
When large loads can be lifted easily. (with little effort)
What is meant by mechanical disadvantage?
When large loads can be lifted but with more effort creating a bigger/faster movement.
What is a plane?
An imaginary line dividing the body in two.
