complications of blood therapy Flashcards
3 types of transfusion reactions
febrile, allergic, hemolytic
what is the most frequently occurring transfusion reaction
febrile
tx of febrile transfusion
slowing the rate and administering antipyretics
allergic transfusion reaction occurs due to the presence of
incompatible plasma proteins in the donor blood
how does allergic transfusion reaction manifest
urticaria, pruritus, occasional face swelling
differentiate between allergic reaction and hemolytic reaction by
checking the urine and plasma for free hemoglobin
hemolytic transfusion reactions occur from
administration of erroneous unit of blood to a patient
all clinical signs of hemolytic transfusion reaction can be masked by anesthesia except
hemoglobinuria and hypotension
