Q

how are differing needs and interests a challenge in deciding whats good for society?

A

the differ in needs and interests are shown in families with school-going children and the elderly. an example is the different concerns between elderly and families with school-going children in society. this is a challenge because the government will need to allocate the limited resources to meet the differing needs and interest in trade offs. in the long run, the government will prioritise more resources on both education and healthcare systems so that children can receive the best possible education and the elderly can receive more affordable and higher quality healthcare. therefore, challenges in deciding whats good for society is differing needs and interests.

Q

how does unequal sharing of cost a challenge in deciding whats good for society?

A

in different groups, unequal sharing of coast may be a result of their decisions in the trade offs. an example is the conflict on whether to build elder facilities in the Toh Yi estate where some residents objected the suggestion. this is a challenge because those who show ‘not-in-my-background’ syndrome do not recognise the importance of eldercare facilities but see it as a burden to pay the extra costs so they want it to e built somewhere else. in the long run, the different perspectives will lead to tension in decision making. therefore, unequal sharing of costs is a challenge in deciding whats good for society.
