BACTERIA

  • Can form resistant spores that can remain dormant inside host until conditions are favourable
  • Produce toxins and enzymes that damage tissue or disrupt cellular functioning

VIRUSES

  • Changes cell metabolism
  • Causes cell lysis
  • Causes cell to become cancerous (rapidly divide)
  • Releases harmful toxins
  • Changes characteristics of cell causing immune response to destroy cell
