Q

what are peripheral thermoreceptors?

A
  • respond to heat and cold
  • inform the brain of body temp
  • monitor core temp in the hypothalamus
  • detect blood flowing through the brain

Q

what are osmoreceptors?

A
  • located in the hypothalamus
  • osmotic temp is determined by the concentration of substances dissolved in the water of blood plasma
  • higher conc = higher osmotic pressure
  • sensitive to very small changes in osmotic pressure
  • stimulate hypothalamus > body water content maintained

Q

what are chemoreceptors ?

A
  • stimulated by particular chemicals
  • found in the mouth & nose
  • makes us sensitive to body fluid
  • involved in the regulation of heart and breathing
  • sensitive to the Ph of the blood and to the conc of oxygen + carbon dioxide
