Compare gas and nutrient requirements for autotrophs and heterotrophs Flashcards
Compare needs of energy/nutrients in plants animals and bacteria
Plants: light for photosynthesis
Animals: mainly complex carbohydrates
Bacteria: chemoautotrophs require inorganic chemicals such as sulfur dioxide
autotrophs require light
Compare needs of simple chemicals in plants animals and bacteria
Plants: water and carbon dioxide for photosynthesis, oxygen for cellular respiration
Animals: water and oxygen for cellular respiration
Bacteria: all need water, some need oxygen and chemosynthetic bacteria require other chemicals such as sulfur dioxide or carbon dioxide
Waste removal needs
Plants: in the daylight surplus oxygen via stomates
Animals: carbon dioxide and urea
Bacteria: varies wildly but includes carbon dioxide methane and metal sulfides
