What is a CCO
A
- A CCO is the supervised sentence served in the community that includes special conditions, such as unpaid community work for a number of hours.
- A CCO can be combined with a fine or a year in prison.
CCO’s can be imposed for offenses over 5 penalty units.

What are CCO core conditions?
A
Every CCO has these core conditions:
- An offender must not commit another offense punishable by prison, whilst on their CCO
- Must report to and receive visits from a CC officer.
- Must not leave Victoria without permission.
- Comply with directions given.

What are the optional attachable conditions of CCO’s?
A
The court must attach at least on one special condition such as:
- Unpaid community work
- Supervision
- Curfew

What are the sentencing purposes of CCO’s?
A
- Punish the offender
- Endorse a “good citizen” feeling which cuts down recidivism rates. Rehabilitates the offender.
- Treat the underlying cause of the offending.
- Works as a specific deterrence.

How can CCO’s be imposed?
A
- Can be imposed for up to 5 years in a magistrates court for a single offense, and no more than 5years in any VIC court.
- Can be combine with a fine, or prison. CCO becomes active after prison.
