What is an aggravating factor?
A
Aggravating factors are circumstances about the offender or the offense that can increase the seriousness of the offense, or the offenders culpability. If they are present, then a higher sentence should be imposed.

What are some aggravating factors?
A
- Use of violence , explosives or a weapon when committing the offense.
- Did the victims suffer brutality/ the nature of the crime.
- Vulnerability of the victim
- Breach of trust in a role of power.
- Offense is committed in front of children
