When everything is owned by the community as a whole. Private property doesn’t exist and everyone contributes and receives accordingly. No hierarchy of social class.

Friedrich Engles and Karl Marx used the ‘Communist Manifesto’ in famous pamphlet, promoting the idea
What do supporters think of communism?
It avoids problems of differences in distribution of wealth.
What did the critics think of communism?
Accused of it being too centralised with too many restrictions.
Why were communist states created in modern history?
Following revolution where working class (proletariat) overthrew the ruling regime.
What happened in Russia 1917?
Vladimir Lenin of Bolsheviks overthrew the Russian imperials.

- Protests cause by war
- Tsar Nicholas II abdicates (signs iff right to throne)
- Lenin plans on taking control of Russia.
- The Bolsheviks seize power (October revolution).
What was leninism?
The belief that he could skip stages and force power on behalf of the workers in 1917.
Why were people unhappy with the way Russia was ruled?
There was a hopeless economy due to the costly war effort. They had poor military and there were the most casualties in Russia in ww1 than any other country. Their involevement was disasteous for Russian Empire. Russia was also inequal in working class and bouergaise.

Lenin toom his communsit supporters to overthrow the government. It was nearly bloodless and Lenin succesfully became the dictator of the worlds first communsit state.
