What radio equipment is required by an RPT aircraft?
Either:
- 1 VHF and 1 HF or
- 2 VHF’s
What radio equipment is required by IFR aircraft?
- VHF and
- HF
What radio equipment is required by CHTR aircraft?
- VHF and
- HF
When is the carriage and use of radio equipment required?
- When is controlled airspace
- When at or near non-controlled registered, certified or military aerodromes
If you notice that your previously submitted position estimate is out by …….. you have to notify ATS of the new estimate!
2 min
When do you have to report to ATS if you notice your speed may vary to the one submitted on the flight plan?
- If your TAS is more or less than 5% of the submitted TAS
- If your Mach is out by more than 0.01 Mach
You filed a TAS of 240kts for your flight. During the cruise you do a TAS check and find that you are only maintaining 234 kts TAS. What do you have to do?
Nothing, as this is still within 5% (12kts) of the planned TAS.
If you notice that one of your two radios has failed before departure of your RPT flight, can you proceed to depart?
As long as you meet the equipment requirement of 1 VHF and 1 HF or 2 VHF’s, yes. If not, and you are at a place where the radio can be fixed, you cannot take-off.
What is a CA/GRS?
Certified Air/Ground Radio Service. A tower service at an aerodrome providing operational information such as weather, traffic,… It is still the pilots responsibility to maintain separation of aircraft and inform others of their intentions.
What indicates to the pilots that they have selected the correct frequency, when an AFRU is available?
- Voice transmitting aerodrome name
- Beep after transmission
- Beep or voice after three click transmission within 5 sec
What is an AFRU useful for?
- Ensuring the correct frequency has been selected
- Ensuring the transmission has been received
- Ensuring radio volumes are correct
