Communication and Emergency Procedures Flashcards
What is the signal to be seated for an emergency landing/ditching?
The FDC will advise the Flight Attendants to return to their jumpseat by announcing over the P.A. system: “Flight Attendants to your jumpseat. Agents de bord à vos strapontins.” If failure of the P.A. system, the FDC will call the Flight Director via interphone. At that point, the Flight Director must initiate an interphone call to all Flight Attendants using the “ALL” button advising them to take their respective position.
What is the procedure if a circuit breaker pops?
Never reset it. Advise the Flight Deck Crew immediately as to what specific circuit breaker it is and if there is any smoke, sparks or flames. The Flight Director writes in the cabin log book about the concerned circuit breaker. In prevision of a crew changeover, leave a note informing the next crew of the situation.
In the case of a fire, who will take charge of fire fighting and call for backup?
The first Flight Attendant arriving at the scene will be the one taking charge of fire-fighting and calling for back-up.
What is the procedure if you see an engine fire?
- If fire is observed in an engine, advise Flight Deck Crew immediately.
- Specify which engine, left or right.
- Engine fire is monitored in the flight deck by a warning system.
- The Flight Deck Crew has control of the fire extinguishers located inside each engine including the APU.
- Update Flight Deck Crew on further developments of situation.
- The view of the engines will differ whether you are in the passenger cabin or in the flight deck.
What should you do if you suspect or observe symptoms of hypoxia?
Verify with other Crew Members. Advise the Flight Deck Crew and describe symptoms and location of persons experiencing them.
What is a SNEL?
Short Notice Emergency Landing/Ditching - Ten (10) Minutes or Less: The PIC will call the Flight Director via the P.A. system and transmit the TESTRA sequence via interphone if ten (10) minutes or less remains to prepare the cabin. Without first contacting the Flight Attendants, the FD using the S.N.E.L. (“Short Notice Emergency
Landing/Ditching”) action plan will brief the passengers and Flight Attendants. Given the short notice of ten (10) minutes or less, the Flight Attendants will be seated at their jumpseat with a safety features card in hand and demonstrate to the best of their ability the instructions given by the Flight Director.
What are the four things we use ABPs to help us with in an emergency?
- Assisting passengers requiring special attention (buddy system) such as the impaired passengers, elderly, UMs, etc.
- Being responsible for unmanned exits such as overwing exits. Show them:
• When to open, when the aircraft comes to a complete stop.
• How to open, using the safety features card (explain the procedure).
• How to evacuate, on a slide, tell the passenger to jump into a raft, tell them to inflate their jacket then board the raft. - Crowd control; hold passengers until the exit is opened and ready for evacuation.
- Assisting you at your exit (back-up duties); once the exit is open, help passengers to get out or clear the bottom of the slide. In a ditching, help passengers into the raft.
