Chief Engineer (CHENG)
Head of Engineering Department.
Main Propulsion Assistant (MPA)
Responsible for operation, Care and Maintenance of the ships propulsion system.
Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW)
Responsible for proper performance of engineering plant and safety underway. Similar to OOD.
Engineering Duty Officer (EDO)
Responsible to the CDO for the watches and care of equipment while in port. Also in charge of fire party.
Cold Iron Watch
Responsible for maintaining watch on equipment when Boilers are off.
Oil King/Water King
Responsible for waters and fuels on board
Gas Free Engineer
Responsible for testing of all spaces that may have been overrun by gasses DCA is the Gas Free Engineer
Engineering Log
Daily record of events involving engineering. Legal document maintained by the EOOW.
Engineering Bell Book
Logs all changes in speed to the ships RPM. Legal Document
Engineering Night Orders
Orders written by CHENG covering any special instructions for the hours between 2000-0800
Liquid Load Plan
Contains draft of ship forward, aft and mean draft.
Daily Fuel and Water Report
Report of ships liquid load.
Naval Ships’ Technical Manual (NSTM)
Manuals containing instruction and guidance concerning shipboard procedures, equipment repairs, testing and overall management, equipment and system.
Ships’ Information Book (SIB)
Document covering general info about the ship including length, beam, ships mission, equipment held on board general description, etc.
Engineering Operational Sequencing System (EOSS)
similar to CSOSS
Jacking over the main engine
Done while ship is not moving to prevent shaft from warping

Generation, Expansion, Condensation, Feed
