common cold Flashcards
external wind invades the lungs (defensive qi) causing what sxs?
aversion to cold fever occipital stiffness headache floating pulse
exterior wind can be combined with what other factors?
cold, heat, dampness, dryness and water
common cold , acupuncture works well. 6 stages exterior pathogenic factors, can be outside, inside-outside, or inside. taiyang. invasion of wind cold where cold or wind predominates.
deeper, it will be shaoyang stage, inside and outside- more like the flu.
yangming (4 bigs)
wei stage and qi stage are the most important stages in the four stages. wei, pathogenic heat.
qi stage
q

FOUR LEVELS
defensive qi level
qi level
nutritive level
blood level
defensive qi level of the 4 levels relates to what pathology
wind heat
damp heat
summer heat
wind dry heat
qi level of the 4 levels
lung heat, stomach heat, stomach and intestines dry heat, gallbladder heat, stomach and spleen damp heat
nutritive level
heat in the pericardium, heat in the nutritive qi
blood level
heat agitates blood, stirs wind, agitates the interior, collapses yin, collapses yang
in defensive qi level there is wind cold, prevalence of cold. the sx are aversion to cold, fever, no sweat occipital ha, stiff neck, body aches slight cough, runny nose with white dc, sneezing, floating pulse. WHAT IS THE TX PRINCIPLE?
release the exterior, expel wind, scatter cold, resotre the diffusing and descending of lung qi
what acupuncture points should be used for windo cold with a prevalence for cold?
Lu7, LI4,BL12- three most important points to expel wind cold. can cup on bl12
GB20, DU16- expel wind and tx ha and stiff neck
BL13- restores the diffusing and descending of lung qi, and is selected for cough
LI20, DU23- expels wind and clears the nose and are used if sneezing and runny nose are pronounced
DU20- expels wind and relieves headache
Ki7- used in conjunction with LI4 to cause sweating.
wind cold prevalence wind sx
aversion to cold, shivering, fever, slight sweating, occipital ha, stiff neck, body aches, slight cough, runny nose with white discharge, sneezing, pulse floating and slow
treatment principle for wind cold prevalence of wind
release the exterior, expel wind cold and harmonize nutritive and defensive qi
acupoints to treat wind cold prevalence wind
Lu7, LI4 BL12- three most important points to expel wind wold. can cup on bl12
st36- harmonizes nutritive and defensive qi
bl18 nourishes nutritive qi and blood thereby harmonizing them.
LI20, du23 expel wind and clear the nose
bl13- restores diffusing and descending of lung qi
wind heat sx
aversion to cold, shivering, fever, slight sweat, runny nose with yellow discharge, ha, body aches, sore throat, swollen tonsils, thirst, slightly dark urine, tongue, red on sides or front, p- gloating and rapid
tx principle for wind heat
release the exterior, expel wind heat, and restore diffusing and descending of lu qi
acupu points for wind heat
li4, li11 and tw5 are the three most important points to expel wind heat
bl12 - releases the exterior
bl13 diffuses and disperses lu qi
if severe ha add gb20 and du 16. li11 also for the sore throat and can be bled for severe sore throat
wind damp heat sx
aversion to cold, shivering, fever, feeling of heaviness of the head and body, nausea, vomiting, swollen glands, headache, feeling worse in the afternoon, feeling of oppression in the chest and epigastrium, sticky taste in mouth, tongue- sticky yellow coat, p- slippery and floating
tx principle of wind damp heat
release the exterior, expel wind heat, resolve damp
acupoints to tx wind damp heat
LI4, LI11- release the exterior and expel wind heat and resolve damp heat
sp9- resolves damp heat
cv9 and 13 resolve damp and harmonize the center and subdue rebellious st qi
TW5- expels wind heat
du14- clears heat
