Commercial Flight Maneuvers Flashcards
What is a steep turn?
ACS standards?
Turn with degree greater than 45
Maintain altitude+/-100, airspeed +/-10, bank +/-5 and roll out on entry heading +/-10
What is a Chandelle?
Max performance climbing 180 turn from straight and level to wings level nose high min airspeed
First half is constant 30 bank and changing pitch
Second half is gradual change if bank from 30 to 0 and constant pitch
What is a lazy eight?
2 180 degree turns in opposite directions making a climb and decent in a symmetrical Pattern
Entry- level, cruise speed
45- max pitch up, bank 15
90-bank 30, min airspeed, max alt, level
135- max pitch down, bank 15
180- level, original heading, airspeed, altitude.
What are 8s on pylons?
Flying in circular path alternately left and right around 2 selected points on ground at pivotal altitude
Ground speed up, pivotal altitude up, so downwind climb
Ground speed down, pivotal altitude down, upwind descend
Points should be far enough apart to achieve straight/level flight in between them
Power off 180
Glide with engine idle from specific point on downwind to touchdown normal landing
Instills judgement necessary to fly without power and estimate glide distance while maintaining proper glide path
Steep spiral
Constant gliding turn around a point. Maintain constant radius and bank no more than 60.
Practical application for loosing altitude while remaining over a selected landing spot for forced landings
Steepen bank in downwind and shallow on upwind
Soft field
Clear area Maintain power and align ac on runway without stopping and advance throttle to takeoff Lift off at lowest airspeed possible Remain in ground effect until Vx or Vy Positive rate of climb
Short field
Clear area Position controls for wind Hold brakes Verify power and gauges Rotate at 55 Climb at Vx Accelerate to Vy after 50ft Checklist
