Command Training Flashcards
WX Radar testing Ground
Ground ops. Radar rotating mode is not to be used when following objects lie within 37m:
- ACFT Refuelled
- Fuel tankers
- Persons/Cargo
- other ACFT or Hangers
*if radar stations 60m applies.
WX airborne test
At 10,000ft, set range to 200nm line of sight is 100nm
Tilt radar down to minus 1 degree and look for ground return at least 100nn mark.
WX hail detection
FINGER
HOOK
SCALLOPED EDGE
U-SHAPED
WX Tilt Management
Below FL150 - 20nm ground return. Then divide altitude by 2 and add onto current tilt degree angle
Above FL150 - 40nm ground return. Then divide altitude by 4 and add into tilt angle
HEP
With +10 degree set on ground and radar display at 25nm mark. Tops are at FL250
WX painting at 15nm. Tops of FL150
GAIN (sensitivity) use
Can reduce gain to assess the weaker part of the cell.
Ensure returned to MAX
3 life and death rules
+10 Tilt - any WX at 20nm or greater must be avoided
+10 Tilt - any echo giving contours regardless of distance must be avoided
+10 Tilt - ACFT in landing config any contour with on 5nm cannot be avoided. Conduct MAP
Touch down zone
300m - start of middle touchdown marker.
At controlled aerodrome RWY length greater than 2400m. If briefed TDZ may be altered
Fuel Procedures
Drain 20 min after refuelling or prior to
Magna stick required outside 5% - Flight can continued if Magna indicates above min fuel, or both diodes 10 would be above min fuel, or if MID/FULL level is used to calculate FOB and is above all mins
Fuel distances:
5m from sealed buildings
6m stationary aircraft
15m exposed public area
15m unsealed building
Fuelling with PAX onboard
Advise FA
PAX must be informed of refuelling,
Seatbelts off
No smoking
No use electronic devices
No catering if PAX onboard
No use of DPL etc blocking exits
FA must remain at FWD door
Fuel Spillage
PIC must notify FF
Not allow anyone within 15m of spill including airport vehicles
No start attempts to be made
Flight planning forecasts
TAF must be valid 30min prior to 60min after planned ETA.
Any aerodrome doesn’t have IAP that can be flow than additional GAF must be carried to required SIGWX above 10,000ft requirement.
OEI Threshold
60mins
B - 205nm
WT - 208nm approx 180KIAS mark
Manual Flight plan
Saab operations it is done through NOC. They will submit a flight plan built or manually from FOED through NAIPS system or by direct contact with Canberra briefing office
AVFAX
Dial in system
Enter account number and password
Enter custom code
Enter fax number
De-Icing procedures
De-Icing commenced left wingtip and this is also start of HOT. PIC must then inspect the aircraft is free of contaminants
If engine is cold soaked wait 5mins prior to using HP’s
If BG failures to engage, CL to START and wait until PGB oil is above 25 degrees
Take off in icing conditions or when de-icing has beeen conducted use RATED PWR
Prior to TO roll apply FI + 15% TRQ for 15 secs to remover excess fluid
1/2 bank not off until above ENR+20 in icing conditions above MSA on takeoff
Rated and Reduced take off’s
Rated PWR must be used when:
- anti skid inop
- CTOT inop
- NWS inop
- VIS less than 1000m
- ENG A/I ON
- Windshear/ Wake turb
- Gear down dispatch
- Ground deicing
Can reduce on WET RWY using appropriate charts, However this must be ECS off TO.
Vref and additives
Vref - plus MI or IC = Vref Corrected
Vref C + WI = Vfa
Stabilised approach criteria

On slope
Correct config
Speed in tolerance
ROD not greater than 1000fpm
Appropriate PWR setting
No more than normal corrections to stay on profile
