How often will the cg bypass go off?
Every 30 seconds and flash for 10 seconds
When do you use the yellow techav cock?
Isolates the safety apparatus on any other m car other than the lead
What is the main res to brake controller used for?
When it’s open- it allows main res air to flow to the brake controller when on auto air
Close if there’s a fault
Brake unit- what is variable load valve
Monitors air pressure in the air suspension
Brake unit- what is the restricted application limiting valve and ball check valve?
Allows a 10% increase in b/c pressure when using air brake above ep brake
Adjust b/c pressure during rheo braking to a holding pressure on m cars only
Brake unit- 7 step relay?
Converts electrical signals from brake controller into 7 steps of ep brakes
Controls the flow of main res air to brake cylinders to that car
Brake unit- Restricted application magnet valve?
Prevents simultaneous application of ep while rheo braking on m cars only
Brake unit- triple valve?
Controls flow of air from:
Bp to aux res
Aux res to brake cylinders
Brake cylinders to atmosphere
(Charge- apply- release)
Main control valve for air braking
Brake unit- what is the general purpose of both release ensuring valve and dump valve?
To avoid the possibility of sticking brakes
Brake unit- dump valve?
Reduces air pressure in aux res so brakes don’t stick when emy brake is applied over ep
Brake unit- release ensuring valve?
Removes 14kpa from aux res when brake controller is in r/r
Brake unit- bypass check valve?
Provides a passage for main res air to reach the brake cylinders
Brake unit- hand release valve?
A manual release of air pressure on that car during brake defects
What is the purpose of the bvic? (4 items)
-main res air to auto air valves and into bp through to the brake cylinders
- electrical current to the ep and rheo brake selector switches in brake controller
-electrical current to the low pressure flag and lock out magnet valve
- electrical current to door monitoring circuits for blue door closed lights
What’s the purpose of the lsm switch?
Protection system to reduce the load on substations when overhead power is restored
Also protects 1500vdc equip
What equipment is on the aux c/b
Bell
Aux start
Doors release and close
Saloon lights on and off
Couple and uncouple buttons
Aircon #1 control
Rheo local
Self centring device
(First 4 train lined, last 4 not)
If aux c/b trips what happens to saloon lights?
They remain in the state they were in
If aux c/b trips what happens to the doors?
They will remain in the state they were in
(Door loop bypass to detrain)
If aux c/b trips what happens to the cab bell?
Won’t operate
If aux c/b trips what happens to the aux start button?
It will fail to remotely start the ma on the trailing motor cars
What equipment is on the control c/b?
Master controller
Reverser
Brake (rheo)
Overload reset
Panto lower and raise
Control governor
If the panto raise button is tripping the control c/b what can you do?
Locally raise pantos in each car and submit tmm
If the panto lower button is tripping the control c/b what can you do?
Reset c/b
Electrically isolate each panto in turn and test individually until faulty one is found
Manually lower and isolate faulty panto
(If this doesn’t isolate fault it’s in train cable or other wiring don’t dock up)
If traction reset is tripping the control c/b what can you do?
Find defective motor using this car light
Motors all out
If mc is off, no buttons pressed and brake handle in r/r control c/b trips what do you?
Short circuit of control c/b and Mc
C/e to power from other cab or disabled
Control cb trips with brake in the applied position (reverser is on) what do you do?
Short circuit on rheo brake demand wire or equip
Isolate rheo and reset
Doesn’t reset- trip ep cb (resets run on air)
Doesn’t c/e or disabled
Control cb trips with brake in the applied position (reverser is on) what do you do?
Short circuit on rheo brake demand wire or equip
Isolate rheo and reset
Doesn’t reset- trip ep cb (resets run on air)
Doesn’t c/e or disabled
If the control c/b trips when using master controller what do you do?
Short circuit in train cable or traction control equip
Reset c/b try each notch (trips in 4 proceed at lower speed)
Trips straight away - motors all out reset and try for power
If it still trips after
All in and try other cars
If the control c/b is still tripping after isolating motors what’s the next steps?
Motors all in reset cb
Divide train test for power in lead portion
If you have traction power attach non electrically
Run on air
If all fails disabled
What is the first thing you check if you can’t obtain traction power?
Trip- lowered and reset
switches - blue light and cbs and switches in normal position
gauges- mr 585-725
Bp- 400-430
Control res- 490
cocks- bvic open
Red ec
Yellow techav
If all trips switched gauges and cocks are all correct what is the next thing we check?
110vdc power
Supply light
Lp is lowered and ep works
Bell works
When would you perform the robbds test?
When you can’t get traction power
What’s the first step of the robbds tests?
Reverser- put in reverse and test for amps
Step 2 of robbds test?
