What is the object of single line working?
When one line of a double line system is closed for normal traffic due to track repair or due to obstruction.
Allows trains to run in either direction of a normal one direction track
What is the authority to enter the single line working?
Pilot acting under instructions of signaller
Are signals fixed at stop at either end of single line working?
Yes
How is a pilot identified?
Red badge with pilot in white letter on left arm
If there’s no badge red flag must be used instead
What info will a pilot give you before entering single line section?
Exact location of single line section
Allow driver to read pilots form
Pilot will authorise driver to pass signal controlling the entrance
Inform whether train will be dispatched or accompanied by pilot
When two or more train are to follow the pilot will dispatch all trains and accompany last train
What speed must the train do at any crossover that is now facing points instead of trailing?
15km/h points to be clipped if are not interlocked
What precautions must a driver take during single line working?
Run cautiously at reduced speed
Frequent use of whistle
During hours of darkness what lights must be displayed at front of the train?
Red markers or hazards
What precautions are in place when going over level crossings?
C/e maybe appointed to operate booms
All right hand signal
Speed of train is max 15km/h
If no c/e stop 3m from crossing
