The tendency for individuals to work together to achieve their goals, the forces that keep the group members on task

The things that go wrong to reduce group outcomes and prevent potential being reached
Social loafing
Individual loss of motivation due to a lack of performance identification
Ringelmann effect
Group performance decreases as the group increases in size
Causes of social loafing
Lack of confidence; poor leadership displayed by captain or coach; players thinking their effort won’t be recognised or valued or make a difference; lack of fitness; not liking their position; not specific goal.
Personal factors
This refers to the similarity of group members in terms of their aspirations; opinions and values; whether or not their happy with their role in the team and even their fitness levels
Leadership factors
Autocratic / democratic / laissez faire - manager or captains leadership style.
Their relationship with the team is important as well.
