Overuse may lead to a loss in value and incentive
What is a problem with extrinsic rewards?
They may place pressure on players to gain the reward therefore leading to cheating
What type of motivation is better?
Intrinsic motivation is better because it is stronger and longer lasting
Methods of maintaining intrinsic and extrinsic motives
Offering reward and incentives early on; pointing out the health benefits of doing a task; making the activity fun and enjoyable - perhaps by including mini games to allow success; point out role models to whom the performer can aspire; breaking the skill down into parts to allow success in each part
