Q

Strengths of cognitive therapies for depression

A

P: Cbt is tailored to the needs of the client treating the cause of depression.
E: During the process of CBT, patients express the causes of their specific depression as part of thought catching to which the therapist tailors a specific treatment plan to disrupt.
E:This enables them to specifically target the issue causing their depression meaning that treatment will be more effective and long term.Conversely, drugs are a genetic treatment that isn’t tailored for a patients needs.
L:Therefore CBT is more appropriate as it treats for the cause of the symptoms

-Supported by Thase et al (2007) as it shows that CBT is equally as effective as all other treatments suggesting that therapy must be effective in treating aspects of the disorder

18
Q

Limitation of treatment for depression

A

P:CBT is not accessible to all people.
E:CBT requires the patient to attend sessions over a period of time at a high cost for treatment to have an effect.
E:However this is an issue as people may not be able to afford this cost.
L:In contrast, drug treatments may be more appropriate as these are treated and patients aren’t required to attend additional sessions. Cbt might not be appropriate in all cases
