Cognitive neuroscience Flashcards
what is cognitive neuroscience?
the study of how brain structures influence mental processes
how is structure and function linked to behaviour?
due to localisation of function different parts of the brain control different things, for example the frontal lobe contains the motor area which coordinates movement
how is structure and function linked to cognition?
mental processes include memory and perception.
many studies have showed that these processes are localised,
for example tulvings study of long term memory which found that different types of long term memory were localised to different areas
how can neuroscience explain health problems
knowing what part of the brain is affected and what it caused can help scientists in finding a way to treat it
