COGNITIVE DEVELOPMNET AND INFORMATION PROCESSISNG Flashcards
Developed by Richard Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin in 1968. Depicts the
human information processing system as consisting of a sensory store (or sensory register),
MULTI STORE MODEL
The first information-processing store, in which stimuli are noticed and are
briefly available for further processing.
SENSORY STORE
The second information-processing store, in which stimuli are
retained for several seconds and operated on (also called working memory).
SHORT TERM STORE
The third information-processing store, in which information that
has been examined and interpreted is permanently stored for further use.
LONG TERM STORE
The processes involved in planning and monitoring
what you attend to and what you do with this input.
EXECUTIVE CONTROL PROCESS
Knowledge of one’s cognitive abilities and processes related to thinking.
METACOGNITION
Used by children for new problems or problems with which they are less
familiar.
FALLBACK STRATEGIES
Thought that occurs without awareness that one is thinking. Singing a
familiar song, brushing your teeth, and riding a bike are all examples of implicit cognition.
IMPLICIT COGNITION
Thinking and thought processes of which we are consciously aware.
An example of this includes remembering what you learned in your Developmental psychology
class during an exam.
EXPLICIT COGNITION
