Cognitive-Behavioural Model Flashcards
Cognitive Behavioural Model
Focuses on the behaviours people display and the thoughts they have. Analyzes the interplay between behaviours and thoughts.
-Conditioning
Conditioning
A simple form of learning, manipulation of stimuli and reward to obtain a desired behaviour
Classical conditioning
A process of learning by temporal association in which two event that repeatedly occur close together in time become fused in a person’s mind and produces the same response
modeling
a process of learning in which an individual acquires responses by observing and imitating others.
operant conditioning
a process of learning in which individuals come to behave in certain ways as a result of experiencing consequences of one kind or another whenever they perform the behaviour.
Treatment - Behavioural dimension
Seek to replace person’s problematic behaviour with more appropriate behaviours by applying the principles of operant conditioning, classical conditioning, or modelling.
Ellis and Beck
we can best explain abnormal functioning by also focusing on cognitions.
-Some people can make assumptions and adopt attitudes that are disturbing and inaccurate
Treatment - cognitive dimension
Adopt new ways of thinking. Identify and challenge negative thoughts, biased interpretations, errors in logic that dominate thinking.
