Cognitive Assessment Flashcards
Neuropsychological testing
Standardized measures to assess specific cognitive abilities in the context of evaluating brain function
Cognitive Assessment on Occupational Therapy
- OT assessment is conducted within the context of occupational performance
- Cognition is important for occupational performance
- Clients seen by OT’s have cognitive impairment
- Use full in determining factors that might interfere with occupational performance
How does OT obtain cognitive assessment information about client?
- Observation of performance
- Reports of the client or caregiver
- Neuropsychological reports
- Administration of standardized cognitive measures
Standardized cognitive measures used by OTs
based on functional task or everyday objects
Test of everyday attention
- Includes eight tasks such as locating items on a map and searching a telephone directory based on an imagined trip to philadelphia
- Tasks are designed to measure selective, sustained, alternating, and divided attention
Multiple Errands test
- Measure of executive function
- Administered in a shopping mall
Lowenstein Occupational therapy Cognitive Assessment
- LOTCA
- Assesses orientation, visual and spatial perception, visuomotor organization, and thinking operations
- 20 subtests, takes 30-50 min to administer
- Each subtest scored from 1-4 or 1-5,
- higher score=better cognition
- Better in predicting functional outcome for individuals being treated for stroke
Dynamic Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment for Children (DOTCA)
- Based on LOTCA
- Dynamic approach
- Assesses cognitive impairments in children
- Allows for the identification of strength and impairments
- Results can be used to develop mediated learning intervention
Dynamic Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment for Children (DOTCA) 1
- Includes 22 subsets in the areas of orientation, spatial perception, praxis, visuomotor construction, and thinking operations
- Initial support for interrupter reliability, internal consistency, and construct validity exists
Executive function performance test (EFPT)
- A performance based standardized assessment of cognition and executive function
- The development of the kitchen task assessment
- Includes 4 standardized instrumental activity of daily living tasks
4 standardized instrumental activity of daily living tasks
Cooking
Telephone use
Medication management
Bill paying
Three purposes of EFPT
- To determine which executive function components are deficient: Initiation, Organization, sequencing, judgement and safety, completion
- To determine an individual’s capacity for independent functioning
- To determine type of assistance necessary for task completion
EFPT has been validated in clients with
Stroke
Multiple Sclerosis
Schizophrenia
