Q

what is it

A

Cognitive psychology is the scientific study of the mind as an information processor. It concerns how we take in information from the outside world, and how we make sense of that information.
Cognitive psychology studies mental processes, including how people perceive, think, remember, learn, solve problems, and make decisions.
Cognitive psychologists try to build cognitive models of the information processing that occurs inside people’s minds, including perception, attention, language, memory, thinking, and consciousness.

Q

meditational processes

A

they mediate (i.e., go-between) between the stimulus and the response. They come after the stimulus and before the response.
Instead of the simple stimulus-response links proposed by behaviorism, the mediational processes of the organism are essential to understand.
Without this understanding, psychologists cannot have a complete understanding of behavior.

Q

schema

A

In psychology, a schema is a cognitive framework or concept that helps organize and interpret information. Simply put, a schema describes patterns of thinking and behavior that people use to interpret the world.
We use schemas because they allow us to take shortcuts in interpreting the vast amount of information that is available in our environment. Learn more about what a schema is, different types of schemas, their impact, challenges, and more.

Q

the study of mediational processes

A

The Study of Internal Mental Processes
Experimental research methods are employed to investigate internal mental processes like attention, memory, and decision-making.
For instance, studies may compare memorization abilities of groups using verbal versus visual presentations of information to determine processing efficiency.
The research can extend to examining variations in processing based on word types or individual differences, providing insights into cognitive functioning.
