How does the cognitive approach contradicts the behavourist approach
Cognitive approach says internal processes can and should be studied scientifically
How do cognitive pyschologists study internal processes
Cognitive psychologists study them indirectly by making inferences on the basis of their behaviour
What is an inference
The process in which cognitive psychologists draw conclusions about mental processes on the basis of observed behaviour
What is schema?
Schema are packages of information and ideas developed through experience that help us to respond to objects and situations appropriately
Why is schema extremely useful
Schema enables us to process lots of information quickly and prevents us from being overwhelmed by environmental stimuli
What is the theoretical model
Theoretical models suggest that the mind processes information in a systematic way, for example the multi-store model of memory.
What is the computer model
Computer models suggest that the mind works like a computer, turning information into a format in which it can be stored (coding).
