coasts L3 Geology and Lithology Flashcards
Horizontal Dip
Vertical or near vertical profile
notches reflecting strata that are more easily eroded
Seaward Dip High Angle
sloping, low-angle profile
one rock layer facing the sea
vulnerable to rock slides
Seaward Dip Low Angle
Profile may exceed 90* producing areas of overhanging rock; very vulnerable to rock falls
Landward Dip
Steep profiles of 70-80* producing a very stable cliff with reduced rock falls
Order the cliff types from fastest to slowest eroding
(seaward dip high angle, landward dip, seaward dip low angle, horizontal dip)

Lithology
The specific type and qualities of rocks.
Physical composition, colour and texture.
Includes permeability and resistance to erosion of a zoomed in specific space.
Geology
Generic average structure of the Earth in large bands. How the most common rocks are laid out
