Concordant coasts
Coastlines who’s geological structure has different layers of rock folded parallel to the ocean.
Dalmatian coasts.
created when valleys running parallel to the coastline are flooded, creating a string of islands along the new coast.
discordant coasts
Coastlines who’s geological structure has layers of rock running adjacent to the ocean.
Emergent coasts
coastlines which possess features brought about by a receding sea level.
Fjards
Similar to a fjord though is far shallower and wider
Fjords
inlets formed from the submergence of formerly glaciated valleys.
Fossil cliffs
A sedimentary cliff face capable of harbouring fossils.
Halosere
The successional structure of a saltmarsh environment.
Plant succession
the progression of abundance and variety of plants species up a Halosere or Psammosere.
Psammosere
The successional structure of a sand dune environment.
Ria
Coastal inlet formed from a flooding coastal river valley.
Sediment cell
A length of coastline in which the movement of sediment is largely self contained.
Submergent coast
A coastline which possesses features brought about by an increasing sea level.
