what type of schools did they encourage?
academies - from 2010 all state schools were encouraged to become academies, which would free them from LEA control & the national curriculum - incraesed diversity
by 2014 how many schools were academies?
over 56% of secondary & 11% of primary school
what other types of schools did they introduce?
free schools which are funded by the government - they don’t need to teach the national curriculum and can be set up by parents, teachers and charities often in response to what the local community wants with regards to education - to increase diversity and parentocracy
what is pupil premium?
extra money the school receives (£600) for each pupil who comes from a poor home - aim : to reduce social inequalities and reduce educational gap
what happened in regards to tuition fees?
they were increased, however children from low income homes could get loans to help
