Clotting Flashcards
what are the 3 stages of clotting?
- Prothrombin activator formed. 2. Prothrombin activator converts plasma protein “Prothrombin” to Thrombin. 3. Thrombin catalyses the joining of Fibrinogen molecules in plasma to a fibrin mesh.
What is the antidote for heparin?
Protamin Sulfate
What are the clotting factors dependent on vitamin K?
2, 7, 9, 10
How does warfarin work in anti-coagulation?
Antagonist of vitamin K, thus blocks synthesis of vitamin K clotting factors
Whats a special concideration when taking warfarin?
Always take the same brand
What is a Thrombolytic?
Used to disolve clots.
Mechanism of action for Thrombolytic?
Fibrinolytic system converts plasminogen to plasmin
What is chemotherapy?
Treatment of disease by chemicals by killing micro-organisms and cancer cells. kills cells which divide rapidly.
Clexane mechanism of action?
Inactivates factor Xa and cannot bind with thrombin to inactivate it.
Benefits of using clexane?
Less clinical effects on clotting cascade = less risk
Mechanism of action for heparin?
Binds to antithrombin 3, inactivate clotting factors Xa and others?
What is clotting factor 2?
Prothrombin
What is clotting factor 7?
Proconvertin (prothrombin conversion accelerator)
What is clotting factor 10?
Thrombokinase (Stuart-Prower factor)
What is clotting factor 9?
Plasma Thromboplastin component (Christmas factor)
