Clinical Microbiology Flashcards
1
Q
Aggultination
A
Direct or Indirect
Direct- Antibody and antigen, clumps
Indirect- with latex beads
Latex coated with antigen - if clumps occur then patient has antibodies
Latex coated with antibodies - if combs occur then patient has the antigen
2
Q
Hemoaggultination
A
Aggultination of RBCs
Virus’s can do this:
Antibodies can neutralize viruses from clumping blood, so if the patient has serum antibody no blood clumping occurs
3
Q
Complement Fixation
A
Direct
-Positive: Patient has Ab -> complement binds Ab-Ag complex and no RBC lysis
-Negative: No Ab -> complement lysis blood cell
Indicator: RBC
Indirect Test
