What are the indications for a stool sample?
Returned travellers, hospitalised patients, bloody stools, systemic toxicity, recent antibiotic use and persisting beyond 4-5 days
What are the 3 bacteria on MCS?
Campylobacter jajuni, Salmonella and Shigella
What is the collection process for fecal samples?
avoid contamination with water or urine
3 specimens over 5-7 days and deliver as soon as possible
What should you test for when there is a history of recent antibiotic use/hospitalisation?
C.difficile
What should you test for when there is severe watery diarrhoea with recent overseas travel?
Vibrio cholera
What should you test for when there is a history of consumption of uncooked seafood ?
