Climate & Weather Flashcards
What is weather?
Precipitation, Temperature, Wind Conditions, and Sky cover.
What is climate?
Average seasonal temperature, Average yearly precipitation, and special weather events.
What is the L in LOWERN?
L- Latitude - How north or south a region is from the equator.
What is the O in LOWERN?
O - Ocean Currents - A part of an ocean that flows with a different temperature, movement of water from one place to another.
What is the W in LOWERN?
W - Wind and Air Mass - Wind movement from west to east and Air is influenced by Jett stream/the river of air.
What is the E in LOWERN?
E - Elevation - The height of land/the higher u go the colder it gets
What is the R in LOWERN?
R- Relief - Affects patterns of precipitation
What is the N in LOWERN?
N - Nearness to bodies of water - Water bodies have effects on land, Wind blowing over water makes the area warmer.
What is a climate graph, what does each of it’s axis’s represent?
Shows climate-related information -
[ Precipitation and temperature. ]
X-axis = month and 2 Y-axis for precipitation and temperature.
What are indicators of a continental climate?
low annual precipitation, max precipitation in summer, and large temp range, found far from large bodies of water.
What are indicators of a maritime climate?
high annual precipitation is closer to bodies of water, less temp ranges, and maximum precipitation in winter.
