Climate Change: Why Flashcards

1
Q

How can changes in the earths orbit change climate?

A

The orbit of the sun can be an elliptical shape there’re at times the earth can be closer to the sun if that is the case then the sun’s heat energy is more intense making earths climate warmer

Q

How does the earths tilt change climate?

A

The earths tilt every 41,000 years changes between 21.5 to 24.5 degrees the greater the angle the warmer summer as and colder winters

Q

How do sun spots change climate?

A

They are parts of the sun’s surface which are extremely hotter than others. They are 0.1% brighter than other parts, so when they shine on the earths surfs it’s hotter and climate follows.

Q

How do asteroids affect climate?

A

If an asteroid crashed then it releases chemicals and dust into the atmosphere that make the climate cooler

Q

How do volcanic eruptions change climate?

A

They also release dust and particles that block sunlight reaching the p earth meaning the surface and climate of the earth cools

Q

What is the greenhouse gas effect and how does it change climate?

A

The process where greenhouse gases reflect some of the outgoing long wave radiation back the the earths surface making it harder for heat to escape meaning the earths climate warms

Q

What produces CO2 ?

A

Pretty much everything but it’s mainly factories which are causing an unprecedented increase by burning fossil fuels especially in China which release hydrocarbons

Q

How does deforestation cause climate change?

A

Plants store carbon instead of releasing it into the atmosphere, less plants means that the carbon remains in the atmosphere. Also if plants are destroyed carbon is released and so the greenhouse gas layer intensifies and thickens.
