Climate Change Flashcards
Physical causes in climate change
Milankovich cycles or variations in the tilt and or orbit , the earth around the sun affect global temperatures
More tilt means hotter summers and colder winters and less tilt does the opposite
The little I’ve age of 1650-1850 may have caused a decrease in solar activity
Volcanic eruptions can effect global temperatures as large amounts of volcanic dust in the atmosphere shield the earth from incoming insolation which lowers global temperatures
Large eruptions may also enhance the greenhouse effect and contribute to global warming
Changes in oceans currents can effect temperatures in some cases . Eg North Atlantic drift
Human causes in climate change
Burning fossil fuels for transport , industry and power produces carbon dioxide leading to global warming ⛽️
World wide deforestation , sometimes involving stations all produce nitrous oxide which enhances the greenhouse effect
Organic waste (eg food) going to land fill won’t break down and will release methane
As world population grows so too does the waste produced
Methane is a strong greenhouse gas , small emotions have a large impact
