Climate Flashcards
What is Mediterranean Climate?
- Hot dry summers
- Cool winter
- Not freezing cold
What are the place that have Mediterranean Climate?
- Central Chile
- South West Africa
- S.W. Australia
- Southern CA
What is Marine West Coast Climate?
- Cooler summers
- Cold winters
- Rainfall
What is the location of the Marine West Coast Climate?
-Located in Pacific N.W.
What is Continental Climate?
- Located in the middle of the country
- Not near ocean
- Extreme hot and cold
What is the reason for the extreme weather for continental climate?
-Not near coast line to regulate the temperature
What is an Air Mass?
-A body of air with the same temperature, moisture, and pressure throughout
Where do air masses form?
- Continental = dry
- Maritime = moist
What are the types of Air Masses?
- Arctic = Very Cold
- Polar = Cold
- Tropical = Warm
What occurs when a Continental Polar air mass meets a Continental Tropical air mass?
- The cold air is denser which hugs the floor and causes the warm air to raise
- When air raises it cools and results in rain
What occurs when a cold front meets a warm front and neither one is strong enough to replace the other?
- A stationary front
- -> boundary between the warm and cold front
What is a occluded front?
-Is the formation of a cold front overtakes the warm front
