Classifying prokaryotes Flashcards
What are the 5 divisions of proteobacteria?
alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon
Alphaproteobacteria: obligate intracellular parasites (required to be inside other organisms that bite)
What are some examples?
R. prowazekii
R. typhi
R. rickettsii
Betaproteobacteria: occur around decomposing matter
What are some examples?
Neisseria gonnorrhoeae
Bordetella sp. (species)
- Bordetella pertussis (whooping cough)
Gammaproteobacteria: enterobacterial; flagella on all sides (peritrichous) and facultative anaerobic (can live with or without oxygen)
What are some examples?
Enterobacter
Erwinia
Escherichia
Klebsiella
Proteus
Salmonella
Serratia
