What is a motor skill?
Action that requires voluntary body or limb movement that is learned
What is a simple skill?
A skill that requires little decisions (e.g. sprint start)
What is a complex skill?
A skill with many decisions (e.g. picking and playing a pass)
What is an open skill?
Skill that is influenced by the environment
What is a closed skill?
A skill not affected by the environment (e.g. free throw)
What is the difference between self and externally paced skills?
Self paced = performer controls the rate, usually closed
Externally paced = may include an opponent, usually an open skill
Give an example of a serial skill
Long jump
Anything with a series of discrete skills joined together
How would you define a continuous skill (with example)
Skills that have no obvious beginning or end (e.g. cycling, running, walking)
