Classical Term of Learning - stimulus-stimulus associative learning Flashcards
What is classical learning also known as
Pavlovian Learning
What is an unconditional stimulus
the stimulus that elicits the response before conditioning occurs.
what is the unconditioned response
a natural response that is elicited by a stimulus before (or in the absence of) conditioning.
conditioned stimulus (CS)
An initially neutral stimulus (like a bell, light, or tone) that elicits a conditioned response after it has been associated with an unconditioned stimulus
Conditioned response
The response that is elicited by the conditioned stimulus after classical conditioning has taken place
Fear conditioning
the conditioned stimulus is associated with an aversive unconditioned stimulus, like a foot shock. as a result, the CS will now evoke fear.
Taste aversion conditioning
when a taste is paired with sickness, and this causes the organism to dislike that taste in the future
Blocking
if an unconditioned stimulus is combined with a previously conditioned stimulus during conditioning trials, nothing will happen (no conditioning)
Prediction error
when what happens in a conditioning trial is diff from what is predicted by the conditioned stimuli that are present. It’s necessary to pavlovian learning. The more learning that happens in the more trials, the less the prediction error occurs
Extinction
Decrease in the strength of a learned behavior that occurs when the conditioned stimulus is presented without the unconditioned stimulus
