Classical Conditioning Flashcards
What is classical conditioning?
A learning theory that people learn through association
What is a neutral stimulus?
Something in the natural environment that doesn’t initially cause a response
What is an unconditioned stimulus?
Anything that has the power to produce a human/animal response
What is an unconditioned response?
A natural reflex to a UCS
What is a conditioned stimulus?
What a neutral stimulus becomes conditioned and acquires the ability to produce a specific response in humans/animals
What is a conditioned response?
A learnt response to something that doesn’t naturally have power to produce a response.
What is extinction?
When a conditioned response declines and disappears because conditioned stimulus is repeatedly presented in absence of an UCS.
What is spontaneous recovery?
When CR reappears in weakened form in response to CS.
What is generalisation?
When stimuli similar to CS produces the CR.
What is discrimination?
The CR being produced in response to CS and not a similar stimuli.
What is the theory? (4)
UCS paired w. NS
If association made between two, NS will cause same response as UCS
NS becomes CR
UCR becomes CR
