Bandura 1965 Flashcards
Aim
Find out if children would be more likely to imitate a role model if they were being rewarded and less likely if they were being punished
Sample (2)
33 girls, 33 boys
3-5 yrs old
Procedure (6)
Same as 1961 & 1963 a
- no no-aggressive model condition
- Rewards conditions, punishment condition, no consequences condition, no incentive condition, positive incentive condition
Results (3)
Model reward condition: same imitation for girls (2.8) and boys (3.5)
Model punished condition: less imitation especially girls (0.5)
Positive incentive: increased imitation significantly for girls and boys and similar across all conditions w. girls score closer to boys (all >3)
Conclusion (4)
Less likely to imitate if model is punished
No consequences condition shows behaviour doesn’t have to be punished/rewarded for imitation
When offered incentives, even if model punished showed aggressive behaviour
Girls more restrained by threat of punishment but effect lessens positive incentive to imitate
