Class I resin composites Flashcards
What is the cavosurface margin
Junction between a prep and an unprepared tooth surface
Cavosurface margins are named after the surface they face, what surface does the occlusal CSM face
occlusal surface
What are the two different types of fissures
Narrow “I” shaped and Shallow “V” shaped
Which of the two fissures is harder to clean
Narrow I
Describe the Narrow I fissure
- Branches at the base
- Caries develop on the cuspal inclines
Describe the Shallow V fissure
- Smoother contours- no branching
- Caries progression to the fissure base with lateral spread
Lesions spread and progress (quicker/slower) when they reach the DEJ
quicker
What would we do clinically with a patient that has minimal isolated carious lesions in oclussal pits
PRR (Protective Resin restoration)
Non- __ cleaning pits and fissures are considered caries prone
self
The goal of preventative pit and fissure sealants to is…
block bacterial accumulation in non-self cleaning pits and fissures
When sealents are places it is imperative that the __ is good otherwise bacteria grow beneath the sealant
retention
Can a preventative resin restoration be performed with amalgam?
no
Why is it that before PRR, G.V Black and other dentists would prep the entire groove surface and place in amalgam?
Because when they only peeped and filled the affected areas they found that lesions would occur it the other pits and groove or lesions would occur under the margins
What is different about todays dental technology that was different back then which has allowed us to perform PRR instead of “extension for prevention”
fluoride and sealants
What are the steps in performing a PRR
- Remove the caries
- Seal are groves, pits and fissures
