what is an experiment?
an empirical study that has:
- independent & dependant var
- and control of extraneous var
what is an extraneous var?
what is a confound?
any variable other than ind and dep
a confound is an extraneous var. BUT, varies systematically with the ind var
what is required to knwo the effectivness of a treatment?
need to know:
- treatment condition
- and control group (or alternative drug)
what are between-subject
test one colognes on a group
what are within-subject designs
test multiple colognes on one person
what is a control condition?
palcebo
how do you knwo wether to use within-subject or within-subject
you just do
why can studies be high in internal validity?
because they can control the independent variable and the exraneous and confound variables too
why can studies be high in external validity?
because the result can be generalized to people and situations beyond those that were actualy studied - its good to think about how othjer people would operate
how can you find subjects?
subject pools ads, personal appeals, etc
BUT for feild experiments you need a well-defined participant selection who are OP
why is it important to standardize experimental procedures?
to minimize exraneous var, including experimenter expectancy effets
should you do a test 1 trial experiment?
yes. be sure itll work
