The Anaconda plan. Naval blockade to stop cotton from leaving country, squeezing the confederates’ economy.

To just defend themselves until the Union gave up.
Define Ironclad
Ships heavily armored with iron.
Who won the naval battle between the two Ironclads, the Merrimac or the Monitor?
Monitor was the Union ship, Merrimac was the Confederate ship. The Monitor forced the Merrimac to withdraw, and saved the Union fleet. The Monitor ensured the continuation of the blockade. Battle was inconclusive-neither side won or lost.
What was the focus of the Western Campaign?
Taking control of the Mississippi River. This strategy would cut off the eastern part of the Confederacy from sources of food production in the West from Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas.
Why was General Grant called “Unconditional Surrender” Grant?
An unconditional surrender is when there are no terms of surrender. Grant demanded that at Fort Donelson.
