What is the Tariff of 1812?
The tariff put a tax on imports, which upset the south, and they stuck to calling it the Tariff of Abomination.
Define Fugitive Slave Law.
A crime to help runaway slaves and allow officials to arrest those in free areas.
What was the reaction of the Fugitive SLave Law?
North: uncomfortable with powers of commissioners, angry
South: enforcement began immediately
What was “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”?
A novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, which was a powerful anti-slavery novel about the evils of slavery; the book upset southerners.
