Circulatory System Flashcards
Blood
Composed of 55% plasma
Capillaries
Network of tiny blood vessels
Artery connects to vein
Tiny blood vessels
Exchange from oxygen, nutrients glucose (which diffuses in ) with carbon dioxide &other waste materials (diffuses out)
Veins
Deoxygenated blood is carried back to heart through these
Blood vessel where deoxygenated blood go
Carries blood to heart
Needs valve to keep going
Circulatory system
A system that moves blood throughout your body
Heart
A muscular organ that pumps blood throughout body
Atrium (left, right)
Chambers Allow the blood to move from body into heart. *blood always go to atrium Left: received blood from lungs Right: received blood from body
Ventricle
Left, Right
Chambers Pumps blood out of heart *blood leaves from ventricle Left: pumps blood to body Right: pumps blood to lungs
Valve
Flap of tissue
Between chambers/ doesn’t allow blood to flow backwards
One way door
Aorta
Largest artery
Branch into smaller arteries until capillaries
Arterioles
Smallest artery
Which reaches capillaries
Also carries blood away, near the end close to cell diffuses into cell
Venule
Smallest veins
Helps deoxygenated blood reach vein
Arteries
Blood vessels that carry oxygenated blood
Carry blood away from heart
Thick walls to contain high pressure no burst
Types of blood (4)
Plasma (liquid that contains protein minerals &other substances)
Red blood cells (carry oxygen, rich in iron)
White blood cells (fight infections)
Platelets (clot blood, form scabs)
Oxygenated blood and deoxygenated blood
Oxygenated blood contains oxygen no carbon dioxide by dropped off @ lungs)
Deoxygenated blood doesn’t contain oxygen had carbon dioxide
Which side of heart collects blood from body and pimps to lungs?
Right (atrium, ventricle)
