Circulatory System Flashcards
What is the role of circulatory system?
- Transport nutrients
- Transport waste
- Transport oxygen
What are the parts / organs of this system?
- Blood
- Vessels
- Lungs
- Heart
What is blood made of? What do they do
Plasma and blood cells.
Plasma transports nutrients/ removes waste
Cells include red and white blood cells and platelets.
What are three types of vessels? What do they do?
Where blood moves around it.
Arteries, veins, capillaries
What do lungs do?
Gas exchange. Oxygenates blood. Diffusion from high concentration of oxygen (air) into low concentration (blood)
What do heart do?
Contracts to pump blood
How does blood enter and exit heart?
- Deoxygenated goes down vena cava and enters right atrium then right ventricle
- Tricuspid valve closes forcing blood to exit pulmonary arteries in lungs
- Lungs oxygenate the blood
- Enters through pulmonary vein and enters left atrium and left ventricle
- Mitral valve closes when heart beats and blood is pushed into aorta and body
Look at worksheet
Of how we breathe
What is cellular respiration? What do they need?
Cells respire to make energy.
Cells need glucose and oxygen to produce CO2, H2O, and energy
