The Heart
an organ that contracts & pumps blood throughout the body
- 4 chambers (right & left atriums & right & left ventricles)
- 4 valves (Right side: tricuspid & pulmonary Left side: mitral & aortic)
Arteries
blood vessels that transport blood away from the heart to the capillaries
Veins
blood vessels that transport blood from the capillaries back to the heart
Capillaries
tiny blood vessels that transport blood from arteries to veins within the body.
Serves as the location for the exchange of O2, CO2, fluid, & nutrients within the body
Flow of blood through Heart
Deoxygenated blood goes in superior & inferior vena cava > R. atrium > tricuspid > R. ventricle > pulmonary valve > pulmonary artery > lungs (picks up O2) > pulmonary veins carry to heart > L. atrium > mitral valve > L. ventrical > aortic valve > aorta > entire body
