Circulatory System Flashcards
Flow of blood through the heart & body
Heart —> atrium —> ventricle —> lungs —> atrium —> ventricle —> somewhere else in the body
Location of oxygenated & deoxygenated blood in the heart
Right: deoxygenated
Left: oxygenated
How the circulatory system is like a highway
Blood (like vehicles) travels through blood vessels (roads) to deliver O2, nutrients, & remove waste from cells in the body.
Highways have multiple lanes for traffic flow, circulatory has arteries, veins, & capillaries that manage the flow of blood in and out of different areas.
Heart is a traffic control center, keeping traffic moving
Function & structure of organs involved
Heart: muscular organ with 4 chambers, pumps blood to the body
Veins: thin walled with valves, carries blood to the heart
Arteries: thick walled blood vessels, carries blood from the heart
Blood: made of red & white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. Carries O2 & nutrients
