Bio Test #2 Flashcards
Integumentary system
Skin, hair, nails, sweat, scent, sebaceous oil glands.
-protects inner cells
Skeletal system
Made up of bones, cartilage, ligaments, tendons, bone marrow
-supports & protects body
-allows for movement
-produces blood cells
-stores energy
Muscular system
-muscle, tendons, & ligaments
-allows for movement
Nervous system
-brain, nerves, & spinal cord
-controls body functions
-all systems rely on the nervous
-disorders: Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, sclerosis, epilepsy, stroke, migranes
Lymphatic system
White blood cells, thymus, spleen, lymph nodes, and lymph vessels
-protects the body from disease
-absorbs & transports fats
Urinary system
Kidneys, bladder, urethra
-filters blood & creates urine as a waste by-product
Endocrine system
Glands, pancreas, & ovaries/testes
-produce hormones that control metabolism, grown, & development
Reproductive system
Tissues, glands, and organs
-produce offspring
Identify plant organ systems and their functions
Shoot system: everything above the ground (stem, leaves, buds, flowers, fruits)
Root system: everything below the ground (aerial roots, may rise above the surface)
Both systems move water & nutrients throughout the plant
How are photosynthesis & cellular respiration similar and different?
Both start with one energy & convert it to another, but the types are different.
Photosynthesis: uses light energy to make molecules in an anabolic reaction
Cellular respiration: breaks down those molecules to release energy in a catabolic reaction
How do the three main systems work together?
The respiratory system brings in oxygen, which the circulatory system carries to cells.
The digestive system breaks down food into nutrients, which the circulatory system transports to cells.
Tissues in your intestine and lungs work together to defend your body against sickness.
